for local businesses. Funding may be available to
cover alarms, closed circuit television, security
grills and shutters, security fencing, anti-ram
posts, security landscaping etc.

The disabled facilities grant scheme provides
financial assistance towards the cost of essential
adaptation work to make a house fit for a disabled
person.

|
|
The repair assistance grant scheme provides financial
assistance towards the cost of materials required to
carry out repairs, improvements or adaptations to
rented council property.

property
|
|
A renovation grant scheme provides financial
assistance towards the cost of larger scale works
required to make a house fit for occupancy or to put
a dwelling into reasonable repair.

tenants with financial assistance towards the cost of
home improvements.

purchase grants
|
|
Under the home move purchase scheme the local
authority will pay a tenant a grant to help them buy
their new home. The tenant must give up their
property to be eligible for this scheme.

Instrumental
provision - assisted purchase scheme
|
|
The assisted instrument purchase scheme is strictly
for pupils attending community schools who receive
musical tuition as part of the curriculum. This
allows students to purchase new instruments without
paying VAT.

nurseries - nursery grants
|
|
The nursery education grant provides financial
assistance towards the cost of private nursery,
playgroup or childminder fees.

Renovation
grants
|
|
Home renovation grants may be available to
owner-occupiers and landlords of accommodation which
is deemed "unfit to live in", is in a bad state of
repair, shows evidence of extensive dampness, lacks
basic amenities such as bathroom or toilet facilities
and where the applicant is unable to pay for
essential repairs.

This funding scheme offers four European structural
funds each used to promote the economic and social
development of the regions perceived to be in need of
assistance.

- book purchase scheme
|
|
The library services department offers book purchase
schemes that allow schools easy and cost effective
ways to buy books for their library.

School -
clothing grants and vouchers
|
|
The award of clothing grants or vouchers to assist
with the cost of school clothing for families who are
on benefits or on low income.
|
|
School
- maintenance grant
|
|
Pupils aged 16-19 attending a community (LEA)
maintained school, who live in the area and whose
parents are on low income may be eligible for a
school maintenance grant payment.

|
School -
transport assistance
|
|
Free or concessionary home to school transport for
pupils aged 5 to 16, to further education
establishment for 17 - 19 year olds and to post-16
school leavers under certain circumstances. Free
transport is usually provided where a pupil is
attending the nearest school to their home and this
is outside the statutory walking distance from home
or for reasons of safety.

|
|
The library services department offers a project loan
service for individual teachers with specially
selected resources for all subjects and key stages of
the national curriculum.

|
|
Visits to schools to give talks about books to
children, or to parents and may also provide a
storytelling service.

Sixth
form access funds
|
|
Provision of financial assistance for students aged
16 -19 who wish to stay on at school in the sixth
form. Students will need to be assessed for their
eligibility for grants from this fund.

Special
educational needs - disabled students allowance
|
|
The disabled student allowances provides financial
assistance towards provision of special equipment and
other general expenses for students with
disabilities.
|

Sports
grants
|
|
The sport grants scheme provides financial assistance
towards the cost of sporting facilities and
equipment. Grants may be available to both sports
clubs and individuals. Advice may also be given on
others sources of sports funding (lottery - Sport
England etc.)

awards
|
|
The student awards scheme provides financial
assistance towards the cost of tuition fees to
students attending a full time higher education
course.

Student
loan
|
|
The student loan scheme provides financial assistance
towards the cost of living for students attending a
full time higher education course. Students repay
loans back once they finish their course and begin
employment.

Tourism -
publicity grants
|
|
A tourism publicity grant is a funding available to
groups and organisations to help them fill a gap in
current tourism provision and encourage visitors to
the local area. The grant may be offered for
publicity material (leaflets, guidebooks). Grants
will generally only be awarded for a proportion of
the cost of any project.

|
Town
centres - shop front improvement grants
|
|
Local shop owners may be eligible for a grant to
renovate their shop front in order to improve the
overall appearance of the local area. Shop front
grants provide financial assistance towards the cost
of materials subject to eligibility and meeting local
criteria.

|
Voluntary
organisations - funding
|
|
Provision of grants to local voluntary organisations.
Grants are usually available for
projects/organisations that meet the councils
criteria and comply with the terms and conditions
imposed on the issue of funding.

|
Youth
opportunity fund
|
|
The YOF money, which comes from the Government, is
for young people, aged 13-19 (or up to aged 25 where
the young people have special needs), to spend on
activities and projects that improve things to do,
places to go or develop confidence, skills and
knowledge. Generally applications for funding will go
to a panel of young people from the local area,
supported by Youth Services and other services, who
are interested in encouraging everyone in their
community to have a say.
