Civil emergencies - business continuity advice
Disruptions can strike at any time to any organisation and occur in many different ways including natural disasters (such as flood, storm or fire), terrorist attack or loss of supplied services. Recovery from disruptions to "business as usual" very much depends on effective planning and preparation.
"It has been assessed that around 50% of all businesses experiencing a disaster and do not have effective plans for recovery, fail within the following 12 months".
Without recovery plans in place, your business, irrespective of size, has less chance of survival. "Research has shown that small and medium size enterprises are particularly at risk" Could your organisation recover from a disaster? Is it prepared to survive? Does it have effective Business Continuity Plans in place? Business Continuity Management should be an essential part of normal business activities and integrated into the culture of the organisation, no matter how small or large.
Local Authorities have a responsibility imposed by the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) for the promotion of Business Continuity to local businesses and voluntary organisations.
