Civil emergencies - major accident hazards

Community Risk Register

The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 places a risk assessment duty on all Category 1 responders (Emergency Services, Local Authorities, Health, Environment Agency and Maritime and Coastguard Agency). An assessment is required for the risk of an emergency (as defined in the Act) occurring within, or affecting the geographical area of County Durham and Darlington.

County Durham and Darlington Local Resilience Forum Partners have published a new register setting out how they have assessed a range of natural and man-made hazards in County Durham and Darlington. The Community Risk Register lists scenarios that services hope they'll never have to deal with, including risks such as pandemics, storms, floods, food contamination outbreaks, land, air and water pollution and major accidents involving a plane or train, as well as serious road crashes.

The County Durham & Darlington Community Risk Register is published on the Government Office for the North East (GONE) website and can be accessed via the following link:

http://www.go-ne.gov.uk/gone/prepforemergencies/rrf_durham_darlington/

The Community Risk Register is subject to constant review and the information on the GONE website will be regularly updated. Further details will be made available on the website when it is practical to do so.
