General legal advice

The Director of Legal & Administration Services is responsible for the provision of general legal advice to the Council and for acting on instructions received from all Council Departments. Legal Services staff represent the City of Durham in both the County and Magistrates’ Courts. In addition to representation in Court, Officers within the Division are also called upon to attend and speak on behalf of the City of Durham at various Inquiries and Tribunals.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding proceedings in Court whether in relation to a prosecution, possession proceedings or personal injury please contact us.
