Development control
About Us
Development Control regulates the development and use of land. It involves the consideration of planning applications, monitoring of development as it takes place, enforcement action where breaches of control have occurred and defending appeals against the Council's planning decisions. On an informal basis we give advice and guidance on specific planning issues. We also respond to general enquiries. Please follow the link below to our Advice Page.
Development Control also provides a service to local communities. In order to ensure that changes to our physical surroundings, buildings and land, are right for their purpose and environment. A framework for development is set out in Government guidance, and in more detail in the City of Durham Local Plan 2004 . For more information on the City of Durham Local Plan see our planning policy page.
