Grass cutting
The grounds maintenance service carries out a range of grass cutting operations throughout the district including housing estates/public open spaces, sports pitches, cricket and bowling greens, churchyards/cemeteries, garage sites, OAP and registered disabled gardens .
The service cuts 4,000,000 square metres of grass on 14 occasions per year and strims edges twice per year. Each team has an operator equipped with a blower machine to blow grass cuttings off footpaths.

Garage Sites
The service carries out grass cutting on council owned garage sites three times per year, normally May, July, and September on behalf of our Housing department.
Highway Verges
Highway verges, centre reservations and site line obstructions are the responsibility of Durham County Council. Their Highways Action Line can be contacted on 0191 3706000.
Garden maintenance
The service provides a scheme to assist council tenants who, because of age or disability, are unable to look after their garden. The scheme which is administered by our Housing department is intended for households where there are no residents physically capable of looking after the garden and who are of pensionable age and can produce their pension book or registered disabled persons who are incapable of looking after their garden. and consists of grass cutting every two weeks between April and October. Strimming edges twice per season normally June and September. Hedge cutting once per season - normally August/September.
