Recycling - disposal sites
In November 2001, the Recycling section of Durham City Council was awarded with a prestigious top three Finalists prize in the National Recycling Awards 2001, and a further County Durham Environment Award in May 2002, for its achievement at increasing its recycling rate from 3% to over 15% in the last 2 years. It is anticipated that Durham City will be recycling at a rate of nearly 20% by March 2003, and this is far higher than the Government set target of recycling 10% by the end of 2003.
