Holiday Programme
The Leisure Section runs a wide range of children's activities over the school holiday periods. This includes playschemes, taster sessions, day trips and sports coaching. Please contact leisure@durhamcity.gov.uk. for further information.
Positive Futures
This county initiative is a partnership between Sport England, the United Kingdom Anti Drugs Co-ordination Unit and the Youth Justice Board. Durham City Leisure Services is responsible for the co-ordination of the programme at a district level.
The project targets specific areas and provides free sport and physical activity sessions to young people 'at risk' of offending, aged 10-16. The projects aim to reduce youth offending, reduce drugs use, increase participation in sport and reduce anti-social behaviour.
Positive Inclusion
City of Durham Leisure Services, Chester-le-Street Leisure Services, Durham County Social Services, Disability Outlook and Integrating Children are partners in 'Positive Inclusion'. The aim is to provide a network service to link young disabled people into mainstream sport and leisure activities throughout North Durham. The group aims to improve provision for disabled people by improving access, providing training and to give support to young people in their chosen activities. Access audits have been carried out in local leisure centres and fully integrated holiday programmes provided. The City of Durham Council aims to ensure that all our leisure activities are inclusive and if you have an enquiry relating to a particular activity or have a query or concern please do contact us via email at leisure@durhamcity.gov.uk or Tel. 0191 301 8556 (Textphone users add prefix 18001 to access BT Typetalk)
