Council housing - improvement strategy
All residents of the City of Durham should have access to a decent home at an affordable price within a desirable place in which they want to live, work and socialise; this strategy highlights how the Council aims to achieve this through the identification of a number of key priorities and the related action plan on delivering these priorities.
The Council strives to provide residents with a high
standard of living by providing quality public services,
encouraging involvement from communities and engagement
with neighbourhoods on a range of issues. We acknowledge
the importance of working in partnership with other
service providers, neighbouring authorities and, above
all, local residents. A more attractive environment and
the influence of available housing are essential to
achieving sustainable communities. To ensure that the
objectives of the Council are achieved targets for
improving the quality, choice and range of housing, and
the related services, are set within this strategy. City
of Durham Council is committed to promoting fair access
and extending opportunities for participation at a local
and a higher level.
The Council is committed to encouraging consultation and
involvement between ourselves, our partners and local
people. Transparency and accountability are key to this
aim, ensuring that local people are empowered to play a
full role within their communities, so they are able to
participate in and influence the decision-making
processes which affect their lives.
