The Mayor of Durham, Cllr Grenville Holland, will be on hand to judge the "cook -off" organized by Durham Markets Company as part of the Continental Market this Thursday.

After officially opening the market at 10.00am, the Mayor will return at 3.15pm to watch the food being prepared and become a delight for the palate.

Sean the Chef will be making the most of the abundance of produce from around the Continent when he puts that food to the test against some of the produce regularly on offer in the Indoor Market.

"The foods that come in with the market are of a very good quality indeed" said Francois Mauraisin, the manager of the touring market, "It will be interesting to see what the chef can do with such wonderful flavours."

"The Market Place will be crammed with traders, some for the first time but most are making a welcome return to the City." Said Francois "I organise Continental Food Markets all over Europe but I always have a waiting list of traders wanting to come to Durham".

This will be the Fifth year in a row that this market has returned to Durham with some of the tastiest food the Continent has to offer.
