1000 Members in 80 Days!
Friday 10th October 2008
The number of people flocking to sign up for memberships at Durham’s state of the art new leisure Centre has surpassed all predictions with more than 1000 in just 80 days.
Freeman's Quay opened in July boasting a 130 station Lifestyle Fitness gym, 25m main pool and learner pool, both with floating floors, multi use sports hall and dance studio.
Lifestyle Fitness suite manager Diane Carr is over the moon, "I knew the great facilities here would attract a lot of interest, but I didn't imagine just how quickly memberships would take off. To hit 1000 in only 80 days is testament to both the quality of the facilities and the competitive membership packages we offer. We decided on affordable options so that everyone could enjoy this centre and it's paid off."
Freeman's Quay Manager Kay Smith , "We are trying constantly to listen and adapt the activities and options available here so that the people who use the centre feel a sense of ownership. We will continue with absolute determination to try and ensure our standards meet public expectations."
City of Durham Leader Coun. Fraser Reynolds, " When we opened Freeman's Quay our great hope was that it would be a huge asset for both residents and visitors to the city, regardless of age and ability. These figures prove we got it right, but we're not resting on our laurels. We are listening and want to ensure Freeman's Quay remains a quality leisure centre with something for everyone."
The news is cause for celebration also for one glamorous Durham gran who was lucky enough to be the 1000th person to sign up. It's the first time 63 year old Sue Cartwright from Belmont has joined a gym and she's proud to say she uses her free bus pass to get there and enjoys a great concessionary membership rate. Says Sue, "It's such a lovely place here and when you're at home you just don't try as hard to get fit, you're always making excuses. I really fancied getting fitter and can't wait to get going."
