Friday 5th September 2008
Get into your Stride with the Launch of Durham’s Big Fun Family Run
When? 10am Sunday October 26th 2008 (09.30 for warm up)Where? Starts and finishes at Durham University Cricket Club Ground, Green LaneWhat is it? It's a 4k fun run to take at your own pace for all the family
Lots of Durham residents will remember the great success of the kids Nike Fun Run from Sherburn down to the city. Nearly ten years since its demise Durham Leisure is now offering all that fun FREE to ALL ages. What's more if you join in you'll get a great Fun Run T shirt and could win your family a years free swimming at the brand new city centre leisure complex, Freeman's Quay.
The idea of a mass participation family event for Durham is that of Leisure Development Officer Jill Wood, " Maybe you did the kids run when you were younger and have children of your own now? Get the whole family on board and come and make our first year a big hit. You don't have to run, you can take it at your own pace, and the emphasis here is on having fun together."
The route meanders along the stunning river bank paths, up to the Cathedral and down through the picturesque city centre before taking everyone back to the Cricket Club. Once you cross the line there'll be goody bags and great family entertainment, refreshments will be available too for all those who've worked up an appetite.
There'll be a great fun warm up with our Physical Activities Coordinator Helen Stockport and plenty of marshals to make sure you find your way safely.
At the end everyone whose taken part will be entered into a free draw and one lucky family will win a FREE swim pass for a year at Freeman's Quay.To register for the run log on to www.durhamcity.gov.uk/Leisure and click on Active Durham or pick up a leaflet from any of our 6 leisure centres or Cityinfo centres. The funding has come from The City of Durham's Active Durham initiative which is providing a year of free sport and exercise activities for anyone living in Durham District.
