Free Cricket is a Big Hit Across the Generations in Durham

Monday 18th August 2008

The recent deluges failed to put a dampener on a day of FREE cricket coaching in Durham on Friday August 15th which was enjoyed across the generations

Around 50 people aged from 5 to 68 took advantage of the offer to learn a host of cricketing skills including a little umpiring.

The event, which is part of the Active Durham campaign, was run at Durham City Cricket Club.

The Active Durham initiative which runs for 12 months and offer free access to activities and sports thanks to grants from Sport England and The Primary Care Trust. Next month is cycling and features free bike and cycling equipment hire from all 6 Durham Leisure venues, including the brand new Freeman's Quay. The month also sees the launch of the Council's free organised guided rides which will run for the whole 12 month programme.

Those cashing in on the offer at Durham City Cricket Ground this week enjoyed expert coaching in batting, bowling and catching and even a mini Twenty20 match. The sun shone for the first time in what seemed and age and great fun was had by all.
