Three Thousand and Counting!
Monday 21 July 2008
The race to be one of the first to swim in Durham’s new flagship leisure complex, Freeman’s Quay, is well and truly on. Already more than three thousand members of the public have cashed in on the swim for a shilling offer.
The state of the art £12.3m facility opened at 10am on Friday (July 18th) and, in addition to the thousands who have already had their 5p swim, over 200 have signed up for annual memberships.
The stunning complex boasts 2 pools both with floating floors, a 4 court multi use sports hall, dance studio, relaxation room, the City's only 'Changing Place' for people with high support needs and a cyber café.
Residents and visitors can swim for a shilling, which is what it cost when the last pool opened 76 years ago, until Thursday night. (9.30pm 24th July).
Taster sessions in a host of activities are already on offer. There's even the first 'ducklings' session for babies from 6 months next Tuesday at 3pm. (First taster session Tuesday July 29th 3pm)
