It's back but better than ever! The Friday Night Youth Club at Sherburn and NOW at ABBEY Leisure Centre too. Come and help our qualified sports coaches and youth workers liven up boring winter Friday nights with a huge array of fun sports and activities. You take the lead and tell us what you want and we'll pull out every stop to try and make it happen.
We'll kick off with some of the favourites like football, basketball and boxing, dancing too if you like. We've got everything from Wii and Wii Fit to mixing decks, arts and crafts and even nail art.
Durham Leisure Development Officer Jill Wood believes the clubs will prove a real hit, "This is all thanks to a new partnership between ourselves and Education in the Community. We won't be telling young people what to do, we want them to help us plan future activities, so they'll be calling the shots. If you're 11 or older and in school we want you to come and join in and learn something new, achieve, but most importantly have fun."
Pam Bloomfield, area co-ordinator for Education in the Community, is delighted that the County Council and District Council are working together to improve things to do and places to go for young people. "We have excellent resources and facilities, and by bringing those together we are confident that we can provide youth sessions which young people will want to attend, and of course, young people will have the opportunity to tell us what activities they want to get involved in."
The new clubs are in addition to the extremely popular Friday youth sessions already held at Meadowfield and Coxhoe Leisure Centres . Jill believes there is a great need, "The youth sessions we've held in the past have focused on encouraging young people to get active and whilst this is still our priority the youth leaders will bring expertise in many other areas to complement that."
The sessions begin on October 31st at Abbey and November 7th at Sherburn, both run 6.30 - 8.30pm. Cost is just £1.
