The aim is to build a healthier Durham under the year of free sport and exercise funded by the Active Durham initiative. For 30 days the gyms at Abbey, Coxhoe, Deerness, Meadowfield and Sherburn Leisure Centres will be free for anyone who is new to exercise.
Helen Stockport is Durham Leisure's Physical Activities Coordinator "By making access to the gyms at these centres free for a month we are breaking down some of the barriers that can stop people taking exercise. We want as many people as possible to see that not everyone that goes into the gym is body perfect and super fit. The facilities are there for everyone regardless of experience and ability and whatever their goal."
It's a campaign that has the backing of The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Durham Coun. Grenville Holland, "Durham Leisure is to be congratulated for introducing this excellent initiative. Their generous offer of free entry into our 5 Future Fitness suites should be taken up by everyone. Get fit for Christmas; and stay fit afterwards."
To take up the offer all you have to do is register for the 'month of fitness' by visiting www.durhamcity.gov.uk/Leisure and follow the Active Durham link. You can also just pick up a leaflet at your local Durham Leisure Venue, the Tourist Information Centre, Cityinfo or Claypath Library, just fill it out and send it in to the freepost address. Then all you need to do is choose your nearest centre and call to make an appointment for your induction. You can call now and appointments for inductions will start from November 1st. When one of our qualified staff has taken you through your induction you can use the facilities free for the whole month of November.
Anyone registering will also get the chance to have a go at one of our great classes from Salsa to Yoga or Body Jam to Body Pump. So get registering and make that induction appointment so you can make the very most of our free fitness month.
