Community assemblies and committees - schedule of meetings

Council

The City Council is composed of 50 Councillors, elected every four years. Councillors have to agree to follow a Code of Conduct to ensure the highest standards are met in the way their duties are undertaken.

All Councillors meet together as the Council. Meetings of the City of Durham Council are normally open to the public. At Council, Councillors decide the City Council's overall policies and set out the budget each year. The City Council appoints the Leader of the Council and Members to serve on the following Committees:-

• Development Control Committee
• Standards Committee
• Appeals Panel
• Scrutiny Committee
• Licensing Panel
• Scrutiny Panels
• Audit Overview Committee

The Council also decides upon the appointment of the Chief Executive. In addition, the Council considers reports from the Standards Committee and may consider reports from the Scrutiny Committee, where appropriate, and take action thereon.
